Here are some documents that can help us learn about the context in which we will be working. Please add other documents, ideas, or pictures that will help us as we plan the curriculum.
- Many of the teachers in rural Africa are teaching in classrooms with more than one grade level. Sue recommends this document as helpful in getting a handle on some of the challenges that brings.
- Another UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) document, this one designed to help those who are facilitating any type of non-formal adult learning, including literacy training.
- Masters Thesis written by Aimee Howarth that ties in literacy instruction with discipleship from a Christian perspective. Aimee was in Mozambique the year after Katherine and I left, and then she went to seminary at Fuller Seminary in California. She is currently raising funds to go back to Mozambique to live in the northern region and focus on discipling women.
- An interesting article written by a teacher from Canada who went over wondering what she would be able to do and how effective she would be able to be. Sound familiar? This article was published in a magazine of a teachers union in Canada.
